Updated | By Marius van der Walt
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says African National Congress (ANC) members should strive for unity instead of engaging in factional politics.
Ramaphosa was addressing supporters in Kimberley.
The ANC presidential hopeful says factions within the party are limiting the its ability to implement the necessary policies.
"We should not be spending time in factional politics. We should not be spending our time backbiting each other. We should be spending our time uniting the African National Congress and making it strong."
Ramaphosa claims recent reports around his private life, claiming he had several extra-marital affairs, was the work of state security agencies.
He told Parliament he would answer to the allegations before the end of last week. He has however not done so.
Ramaphosa told his supporters that importance of the ANC's elective conference in December cannot be overstated.
"The December conference will be one of the most important moments in this generation that will enable us to correct the mistakes that we have been making.
"So that the ANC can renew itself it it does not want to go down the path of decline."
