Ramaphosa was speaking at the launch of the ANC’s anti-racism campaign on Friday.

“The unjustified use of violence by security forces against civilians including in our own country is one such example,” he said.

“The death of Collins Khosa and ten other South Africans reportedly at the hands of security forces during Covid-19 is something that I truly regret.”

The launch of the anti-racism campaign by the ANC and its alliance partners is aimed at demonstrating solidarity with black Americans after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Floyd died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for over eight minutes, while Khosa was killed during an altercation with South African National Defence Force (SANDF) troops during lockdown patrols in Alexandra.

The members involved have been cleared by an internal SANDF probe, although the criminal investigation is still ongoing.
