Ramaphosa: King Zwelithini will be remembered as peacemaker

President Cyril Ramaphosa has lauded the late AmaZulu King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu for his efforts to negotiate peace in South Africa.
Ramaphosa told mourners at the King's memorial service at Kwakhethomthandayo Royal Palace on Thursday that Zwelithini's legacy will never be forgotten.

He said the King played a vital role in the country during the transition to democracy in the late 1990s.
"The King will be remembered for his role in bringing peace and stability to KwaZulu-Natal during the difficult times our country went through," Ramaphosa said.
The president added that King Zwelithini preached peace and unity while detesting violence.
"As the country moved towards democracy, he called for an end to political killings, travelling around the country meeting and encouraging people to resort to peaceful means of resolving conflict.
"His Majesty was a man who believed that the pursuit of violence is ethically and morally wrong.”
Zwelithini's memorial service was held on Thursday morning in kwaNongoma, KwaZulu-Natal.
