Ramaphosa postpones visit to flood-stricken Eastern Cape

President Cyril Ramaphosa has postponed his visit to flood-stricken Port St John in the Eastern Cape.
Ramaphosa was due to visit the area on Thursday to assess the damage caused by recent flooding.
While most of the country’s attention bas been on the floods in KwaZulu-Natal, which wreaked havoc in parts of the province and led to the deaths of some 450 people, parts of the Eastern Cape have also suffered damage to infrastructure and homes.
Ramaphosa has since announced a national state of disaster to allow government to free up funds to respond to the situation in the two provinces.
“The postponement will allow provincial authorities to continue assessments of community needs and gather data that will inform a future engagement between the President, the province, local government and other stakeholders,” said the presidency’s Tyrone Seale.
