Ramaphosa to receive state capture report, including asbestos scandal
The chairperson of the commission of inquiry into state capture is set to hand over a hard copy of the report on the Free State's failed R255 million asbestos project, amongst others.
Chief Justice Raymond Zondo is expected to hand over the report to the presidency on Monday.
Earlier this month, the commission announced that it was in the process of finalising part IV of its report, which would be delivered to President Cyril Ramaphosa once it was completed.
Suspects, including former Free State Premier Ace Magashule, former MEC and mayor Olly Mlamleli, and Head of Human Settlements Nthimotse Mokhesi are already standing trial on charges of fraud, theft, and money laundering.
During court proceedings in February Advocate Nazeer Cassim, representing the State, argued that there was a flagrant breach of Treasury regulations when the tender was awarded for the controversial multimillion project.
The project was mean to eradicate the asbestos roofs of 30 000 households across the province in 2014.
It is alleged that Limpopo businessman Edwin Sodi was irregularly awarded the housing audit tender in 2014, via his joint venture with Diamond Hill Trading, which was owned by murdered Welkom businessman Igo Mpambani.
Not only was the tender irregular but it is reported that kickbacks were given to some of the accused.
Presidency spokesperson Tyrone Seale said they will announce the presentation of the report once the work has been done.
