Ramaphosa ‘sorry and embarrassed’ for unkept promises to Tazne van Wyk’s family

President Cyril Ramaphosa has apologised to the family of murdered Tazné Van Wyk for failing to keep to his promises following the 8-year old’s death in February.

Van Wyk’s body was found in a storm water pipe on the N1 outside Worcester in the Western Cape earlier this year after a frantic 2 week search for the missing girl.
On Friday van Wyk’s mother Carmen spoke at a virtual African National Congress’ (ANC) Men’s Dialogue where she expressed her frustration to Ramaphosa about the slow movement of the wheels of justice.
“Firstly I just want to ask where is all that promises that were made by yourself at our home? You had a lot to say, you have instructed some of your ministers to come to us and to address themselves even from the Monday just after the funeral,” said Carmen.
“Ever since we haven’t heard from them, not even received any message, nothing.”

Moyhdian Pangarker (54) was later arrested on charges of kidnapping and murder.
At his first court appearance, the angry Ravensmead community members made a plea to President Cyril Ramaphosa, demanding that he join the community in fighting against the brutal murder of women and children.
And during a visit to the family’s home, Ramaphosa pledged his support to the family.
Now the 8-year-old’s mom accused Ramaphosa of not keeping true to his word.
But Ramaphosa said his office was attending to the matter with a matter of urgency.
“Just in this week I dealt with the matter that you raised. I want to apologise to you that since I last visited your home and came to pay condolences and to come and sooth your acute pain, which I’m sure continues until now. Yes, we looked at the circumstances of your living and I made certain pronouncements. I am sorry and embarrassed that that has not happened.
“My office is going to get in touch with you and we’re going to take this matter forward and we’re going to see to it that what we did say to you will happen, so that will happen,” he vowed.
