Ramaphosa urged to strengthen ANC integrity committee in honour of Mlangeni

Tributes were paid to the life of African National Congress (ANC) stalwart Andrew Mlangeni during his funeral service at the University of Johannesburg's Soweto campus on Wednesday.
Mlangeni, who was the last remaining Rivonia trialist and spent 26 years on Robben Island, was described as a leader with integrity.
More than one speaker at the funeral called for the renewal of the ANC as a way of honouring the sacrifices made by Mlangeni.
"Greediness and corruption preoccupy the minds of our people. In your honour we need to let go of all these wrong things," said ANC Gauteng's deputy chairperson Panyaza Lesufi.

Family spokesperson Malose Kekana urged President Cyril Ramaphosa to change the ANC constitution in honour of Mlangeni.
"If you wish to honour his name, I propose that Mr. President, you spearhead the change of the ANC constitution to make the integrity commission an independent constitutional structure that does not respond to the organisation’s national executive committee but to conference.”
Mlangeni was a former chairperson of the party’s integrity committee.
Kekana said Mlangeni became frustrated when ANC members failed to take seriously the work of the commission.
