In a recent report, an investigation by the SIU revealed that more than R2 billion was stolen from Tembisa Hospital by some ten criminal syndicates.

Ramaphosa addressed a special ANC national executive committee meeting in Boksburg on Monday, outlining the party’s economic action plan.

"Corruption corrodes competitiveness; we therefore insist on consequence management, lifestyle audits and enforcement of integrity standards across the public sector,” Ramaphosa said.

"The SIU reports that are coming through are demonstrating that we are serious about fighting corruption, and they will be acted on.

"The SIU has made tremendous progress in addressing or helping us to address the spate of corruption that has been spreading throughout."

The unit said the implicated officials in the Department of Health and at the hospital were paid R122 million over an extended period, with one senior official pocketing R30 million in kickbacks.

The ANC’s economic plan also focuses on strengthening the electricity grid, accelerating infrastructure development, and building state capacity.

Ramaphosa told the NEC that tangible results are expected by 2027.
