Relief on the cards for motorists
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
Following this month’s steep hike in the petrol price, there could be some relief on the cards for motorists.
The Automobile Association (AA) predicts that petrol will drop by 24c per litre, while diesel is expected to drop by 20c a litre. Illuminating paraffin could also drop by 21c per litre in June.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard says the drop is due to the rand’s relative strength to the dollar.
"The volatility in international oil prices has been matched by swings in the Rand/US dollar exchange rate, making fuel price predictions tricky,” he warns.
Beard was commenting on unaudited mid-month fuel price data released by the Central Energy Fund (CEF) and says one shouldn't rely too much on these figures since a lot can change by month-end.
