Residents join ‘peaceful’ anti-migrant march in Jabulani, Soweto
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Residents of Soweto on Monday took to the streets to march against undocumented foreign nationals.
Demonstrators have gathered near Jabulani Mall, amid a heavy police presence.
South African Police Service officers, supported by private security, were on high alert as the mall was previously targeted during the 2021 July unrest.
By midday, Gauteng Police Deputy Commissioner Fred Kekana confirmed that the protest was peaceful.
“We engaged the leadership to sensitise them that they need to manage these people. Especially when they march, because they were scattered all over… for now we don’t have any challenges, and we are happy.”
