More rain have been forecast with warnings from law enforcement, emergency services and the South African Weather Services.

Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) and Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) are on high alert.

Almost all the low water bridges across Tshwane and Johannesburg have been closed.

Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Johan Pieterse says residents from certain areas in informal settlements had to evacuated.

"We had to relocate some residents in informal settlements in Soshanguve, Garankuwa and Mamelodi. They were moved to community halls after their shacks were flooded."

According to Pieterse, some subways had to be closed due to the over flowing of the drainage systems.

JMPD's chief David Tembe has called on motorists to be vigilant and plan alternative routes.

Spokesperson Enda Mamonyane says all the officers deployed on Friday morning were instructed to assist motorists on the roads.

Motorists have been warned to avoid the bridge on Witkoppen Road and roads around the Jukskei Rivier, which have been reported to have flooded.

"We have seen a number of accidents. These accidents are because of people losing control of the vehicles, bumping into one another, sliding on the roads and bumping into barricades.
