Retired police officer granted R5000 bail in fraud case

A retired police officers from Silverton and a former clerk were granted R5000 bail on Thursday after handing themselves over to police the previous day.

The due are part of a group of 30 implicated in a fraud case totalling R56 million.
"It is alleged that procurement process were manipulated to favour specific companies,” says the spokesperson for Investigating Directorate Sindisiwe Twala.

“Samson Mashele, a retired police warrant officer, and Joseph Manyoko, a retired admin clerk, handed themselves over at the Silverton police station yesterday ahead of their short appearance today. The pair are now accused 37 and 38 in the case."
Five others handed themselves over to the police on Wednesday.
