Right 2 Know responds to SABC resignation
The Right 2 Know (R2K) campaign has welcomed the resignation of acting SABC Group CEO Jimi Matthews.
Matthews was also the head of news at the public broadcaster.
Matthews announced his immediate resignation on Monday morning. He posted his resignation letter on social media.
R2K's Dale McKinley says: "His resignation confirms what many of us have been saying for a long time. The SABC is a completely corrosive environment. Hlaudi Motsoeneng is acting like a dictator who is abdicating the rights of journalists."
R2K accused Motsoeneng of turning the public broadcaster into a propaganda machine.
The resignation of the acting SABC Group CEO comes in the wake of the public broadcaster's decision to ban the broadcasting of destruction of property during protests and the highlighting of newspaper headlines.
Meanwhile, suspended SABC journalists are reportedly taking the company to the Constitutional Court.
It comes after they challenged SABC boss Hlaudi Motsoeneng's order not to cover violent protests.
