Fifty South African companies will participate in the 7th Investment and Trade Initiative (ITI) to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) next week, the trade and industry department (dti) said on Saturday.
The ITI would be held from September 14 to 19 in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, the dti said in a statement.
Brimis Engineering, which is based in Middleburg, Mpumalanga, is one of the participating companies.
Brimis Engineering managing director Andile Nqandela said in the statement he was excited to be participating in the ITI, as it was his first participation in a mission led by the dti.
“We want to explore the export market in the DRC, as we are aware that it holds a lot of opportunities because of many projects currently underway that side, especially in the energy sector,” he said.
His company, which currently employed seven people, had acquired extensive experience working with the likes of Eskom in South Africa. He believed they would be able to tap into opportunities in the energy capital investments sector in the DRC.
Nqandela said the company’s short-term vision was to export their products to the DRC, but in the long-term they would wanted to set up business in that country.
Brimis Engineering are suppliers of spare parts. They also service and refurbish compressors, pumps, valves, and other mechanical products. The company was established in April 2013.
The business delegation leaves on Sunday, and would participate in business seminars, business-to-business meetings, mini exhibitions, business round tables, and site visits to different companies in Kinshasa and Lubumbashi, the dti said.
The companies had been assisted through the dti’s export marketing and investment assistance scheme (EMIA).
