Lipolelo Thabane was shot dead in her home villiage of Ha Masanga as she was driving home with a friend.

Lipolelo's shooting comes two days before Thabane is set to be inaugurated as Prime Minister.

The Department of International Relations' spokesperson Nelson Kgwete says those responsible should be brought to book.

"We call on Lesotho law enforcement to investigate the crime and bring the perpetrators to justice", say Kgwete.

Thabane will replace Pakalitha Mosisili, who has been prime minister since 2015.

Thabane managed to secure most parliamentary seats, after forming a coalition with three other parties following elections earlier this month.
