SA passes 90 000 Covid-19 deaths

South Africa has breached the 90 000 mark in Covid-19 related deaths on Tuesday after a further 27 related fatalities were recorded.
The country’s coronavirus death toll now stand at 90 002.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) further reported 13 147 new Covid-19 cases in the latest 24-hour reporting cycle.
The institute says the latest increase represents a 24.9% positivity rate.
Gauteng is leading with 8 445 new cases reported in the last 24 hours, followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 1 396 new cases and Western Cape is third with 805 new cases.
There was an increase of 383 hospital admissions on Tuesday, with 3 798 people currently admitted in both public and private health facilities.
On the vaccine front, 140 281 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours.
