President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa is ready to be a major exporter of green energy.
Ramaphosa made the comments on day two of the Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium of South Africa (SIDSSA).
“One of the new frontiers of infrastructure development is green energy, which has the potential not only to drive industrialisation, but to establish a whole new industrial reality.
“We stand ready to be a major exporter in this market, to use hydrogen to rapidly decarbonise our existing industries, and attract industrial investment from across the globe seeking to meet new standards of green power in the production process.”

On Wednesday, Sasol announced that it has signed a memorandum of agreement to lead a feasibility study for green hydrogen in Boegebaai in the Northern Cape.
The Green Hydrogen Export special economic zone, if successful would produce 4 kilo tonnes of hydrogen per annum
It would also create 4000 direct jobs.
“It points to a future where tens of gigawatts of renewable energy feed electrolysers at massive scale, producing the hydrogen power fuels of the future," added Ramaphosa.
