SA records a second day of over a thousand new Covid-19 cases

The number of new coronavirus infections in South Africa have climbed above the 1 000-mark for a second day.

1 086 new cases of Covid-19 recorded in SA over the past 24-hour cycle.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize released the latest coronavirus statistics on Thursday evening.
This brings the country’s total identified cases to 1 579 536.
Mkhize further reported 46 more Covid-19 related deaths.
Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West recorded zero fatalities.
Kwa-Zulu Natal reported 2 fatalities while the Northern Cape and Western Cape recorded 3.
Gauteng reported the highest number of coronavirus related deaths at 14.
This brings the country’s death toll to 54 331 deaths.
“We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the health care workers who treated the deceased patients,” said Mkhize.
10 625 030 people were tested for the virus with 23 137 tests conducted in the reporting period.
307 591 healthcare workers have been vaccinated under the Sisonke Protocol.
The country’s recoveries now stand at 1 504 426, representing a recovery rate of 95%.
