Ramaphosa launched the 2016 South African Chapter of the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Sandton - a gathering of innovators and entrepreneurs.

Ramaphosa says much like wealth and privilege, entrepreneurial capacity is also often passed down from one generation to the next.

Most South Africans have, however, not had the opportunity to test their skills.

"Under apartheid, over many decades, the entrepreneurial instincts of South Africa's majority were deliberately and cynically suppressed. Unless we acknowledge and confront and deal with this reality, we will continue to undermine the efforts to foster an entrepreneurial culture in our ranks," says Ramphosa.

Ramaphosa says business and government need to work together to reach the goals set out in the National Development Plan.
