The disciplinary inquiry process will commence in due course, says SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali.

"The inquiry will commence on the dates to be determined by the external chairperson in conjunction with the parties' representatives," he confirms.

The decision to institute a disciplinary inquiry follows a forensic report into serious allegations of misconduct levelled against Kalawe.

"These allegations include non-compliance with the provisions of the Public Finance Management Act, SAA supply chain management policy and SAA recruitment and selection policy," Tlali says.

The inquiry will be chaired by an independent external chairperson, Advocate Nazeer Cassim, a senior member of the Johannesburg Bar.

Details of the allegations will not be disclosed, as it is an internal matter, Tlali adds.

"These remain allegations and whether Kalawe is in fact guilty and what penalty may be imposed, if any, will be determined by the chairperson of the hearing after considering all the evidence presented by the parties."

Kalawe will remain on suspension until the disciplinary process has been finalised.

He was placed on special leave since October.  He was later suspended.
