SACC: SA suffering at hands of unethical leaders
The South African Council of Churches has called for ethical leadership amid a myriad of corruption allegations linked to Covid-19 funds.
The organisation launched its anti-corruption campaign on Sunday.
“To the corrupt to account, we need urgently to transform our corruption fighting agencies both by urgently cleaning out and existing agencies, and adding a Chapter 9 institution to fight corruption which is independent of the control of the executive,” said Archbishop Thabo Makgoba.
“We need more robust protection for those whistle-blowers and have seen too much interference with the investigative and prosecution arms of government over the past two decades to depend only on the executive to ensure justice.”
SACC’s senior vice-president Reverend Frank Chikane said the country is suffering at the hands of unethical leaders.
“All levels of society are starting again from church, government and private sector, this country is deeply troubled by the number of unethical and corrupt leaders we have, who startled around us without shame about what they are doing.
“We want to make a call to the people of South Africa that this must come to an end and the people must be mobilised street by street, ward by ward, and province by province and to make sure that the unethical never find peace in our mist.”
