SACP: Cabinet reshuffle a 'declaration of war'
Updated | By Laila Majiet & Olivia Phalaetsile
President Jacob Zuma's latest cabinet reshuffle has raised the ire of many.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) says the reshuffle and the removal of higher education minister Blade Nzimande is nothing more than an attack on the communist party.
SACP leaders briefed the media at Cosatu House on Tuesday.
The SACP's second deputy president Solly Mapaila says: "This is not a reshuffle, but a targeted removal of comrade Blade as a direct attack on the SACP."
Mapaila says ordinarily, the aim of any cabinet reshuffle must be to strengthen the capacity of the state.
"But in this case that is not the intention especially with the retention of so many deadwoods and compromised individuals in cabinet."
This is the twelfth cabinet reshuffle during President Jacob Zuma's eight year tenure.
