SACP: Factionalism negatively affects service delivery
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The South African Communist Party (SACP) has lashed out at factionalism within the ruling party, saying it directly affects service delivery.
SACP general secretary Blade Nzimane was addressing media this afternoon following its Central Committee meeting over the last 3 days.
Nzimande said the party discussed concerns around the continued turbulence within the ANC, and what the party is describing as "a growing recklessness and disdain for collective decision making".
He noted that the controversial Gupta family seems to be central to a lot of the issues affecting the ANC.
Nzimande said factionalism is behind the the calls for ministers, including finance minister Pravin Gordhan, to be removed. The SACP believed the well-publicised battle between Treasury and the South African Revenue Service (SARS) is also a proxy war between different factions within the ruling party.
Nzimande called for the organisation and its alliance partners to unify.
He also raked the financial sector over the coals, expressing outrage over the fixing of the Rand/Dollar exchange rate by 17 local and international banks.
The SACP wants criminal steps to be taken against those involved.
Nzimande wouldn't be drawn on talks of a looming cabinet reshuffle, and said he would only comment if and when changes are actually made by President Jacob Zuma.
