The Supreme Court of Appeal has overturned North Gauteng High Court Judge Nicolene Janse van Niewenhuizen's decision to grant parole to Chris Hani's killer.

The South African Communist Party says the ruling has confirmed what the party has said from the outset after Judge Janse van Niewenhuizen granted Walus parole.
"With due respect, Judge Janse van Niewenhuizen was unfair and did not want to listen to the SACP and the Hani family's pleas to take into account victim impact statements", says SACP Acting National Spokesperson, Mhlekwa Nxumalo.
"According to Janse van Niewenhuizen, those statements did not matter. This reinforced the irregularity whereby the victim impact statements were neglected."
"In addition, Janse van Niewenhuizen did not find anything wrong with Walus' prison psychological report in which he confirmed that he was unrepentant as he still harboured anti-communist hatred that motivated him to kill our erstwhile SACP General Secretary."
Nxumalo says the SACP stands firm that Walus must tell the truth.
"There must be full disclosure of the truth and circumstances surrounding Hani's assasination. We reiterate that the state must open an official inquest into the whole truth behind Hani's killing", says Nxumalo.
