briefed the media following the federation's first meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC).
Vavi says the deepening political crisis in the country is of great concern to the federation.
"When we launched the conference on the future of South Africa in December, we hope that it will be a conference of not just SAFTU and of unions, but of the most marginalised sections of the working class," says Vavi.
Vavi says they are extremely concerned about the withdrawal of car manufacturer General Motors from South Africa.
He believes it's a clear sign of the de-industrialization facing the country
"General strikes and mass marches in South Africa is informed not just by General Motors. General Motors will lead to 1500 direct jobs being lost. You can add a few more hundred, a few more thousand jobs. There is a carnage in this country we want to plead with you to once more spare some time to look at it."
