Violence broke out after the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), who were protesting outside the school, were attacked by members of the community.

The EFF members were protesting against alleged racism at the school.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has since called for restraint at the school and for an investigation to be launched into the claims of racism.

The commission’s CEO Advocate Tseliso Thipanyane says the Western Cape branch will be looking into the incident.

“What we saw in the streets is definitely unacceptable, regardless who’s right and who’s wrong.

“We cannot as a country – afford to at this point int time – to witness such scenes of racially intolerance among our people.”

Thipanyane says the incident regresses the work done towards achieving non-racialism.

He says with everything facing South Africa – Covid19, poverty, inequality, violence – it cannot afford to deal with racial segregation as well.

He says the allegations of an all-white party will be investigated and should they found to be true the commission will step in.

“The school will have to explain itself. Our provincial commission will be going there today to find out what happened.

“While we are aware the school has issued a statement that they had nothing to do with this but we need to get to the bottom of this.”
