The 43-year-old SANDF member appeared in the Mapulaneng Magistrate's Court on Monday.

His case has been postponed to 28 July.

Bushbuckridge police spokesperson Ndlovukazi Mashele said the father handed himself over to police on Sunday.

Mashele said the motive of the murder was not yet clear, but it is alleged the 20-year-old son stole R200 from his mother.

"It is alleged the mother then called the father to come discipline him," Mashele said.

He was a Grade 11 pupil at Freddy Sithole High School in Bushbuckridge.
