Sandton ‘Tinder Swindler’ in court for R3m fraud

The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court has heard that a victim of a man dubbed the Sandton ‘Tinder Swindler’ allegedly lent him R1.7 million in cash.
Ugandan international Amon Namara, also known as Amonelo, appeared before Magistrate Nishani Beharie on a charge of fraud.
The woman who laid charges claimed that she gave the accused R3 million, of which was R1,3 million was deposited into a bank account in May last year to help him start his own business.
He has released on R500 000 bail on Wednesday following his arrest two weeks ago.
Beharie ordered him to hand over his passport to the investigating officer, to report once a week at his nearest police station, and not contact any of the witnesses.
“Amon Namara appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of fraud estimated to the amount ranging between R1,2 million to R1,3 million bail was set at an amount of R500 000, and the matter was postponed to 28 April 2022 for further investigations,” said Gauteng NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.
