A 31-year-old Sandton resident has walked away with a whopping R60 million in lotto winnings.

Mr M, who will remain anonymous, played Friday’s quick pick using his banking app.

His 5 matching numbers and a bonus ball scored him an 8-figure pay-out.

Mr M says he’s not a frequent lotto player and that his luck came down to good karma.

“I got into lotto this year since the lockdown, to see what that’s about and see what happens. I heard of people winning some big money. I tried it out and won some R10s, R50s and I think the biggest one I’ve won before this was R500 and this is the big one.

“I’ve got a full-time job, keeps me stressed enough, keeps me busy. I don’t need more grey hair in my head,” he jokes.

The country’s latest millionaire says he’s overjoyed but still shocked.

“I was sitting watching Netflix with a glass of wine on a lonely Friday night, no ‘Netflix and Chill’, just Netflix and me and I saw the time, I checked the numbers on my app and they matched.”

“I couldn’t believe at first then I went and took a cold shower just to make sure this is the right thing. I came back and the numbers were still the same,” he recalls.

The eligible bachelor hasn’t shared the news with friends and family.

“The fun part is that I’m recently single, as of two weeks ago. As for my parents, I have not told them and I’ll keep it that way for the time being and the reason for that is that there’s relatives coming out of the cracks saying, ‘remember this, remember that’.”

He plans to invest a large chunk of the winnings.

“I already have plans I’ve prepared that I want to execute upon.

“About 80% of it is going to be invested, with the balance maybe I’ll splurge a little bit of it on myself but we’ll see how it goes. I’m also looking to do a bit of charity work, I’ll give some to charity as well because I think Covid has been tough on everyone, especially the animals,” he says.

His advice is to “do good and good will follow”.
