SAPS in Lesotho to discuss 'illegal military camps' claims
The South African Police Service's top brass travelled to Maseru on Monday to meet with their counterparts from Lesotho to discuss allegations of illegal Basotho military training camps in South Africa.
The National Police Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Fannie Masemola, is in Lesotho to meet with Lesotho Police Chief, Advocate Borotho Matsoso.
It comes after Lesotho security cluster warned of what they described as a growing national threat, involving the recruitment and military training of Basotho youths on farms in South Africa.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said both police chiefs are expected to release a joint statement after the meeting concludes.
"General Fannie Masemola will, during the engagement, appraise the Lesotho police chief on what SAPS crime intelligence-driven operations have yielded thus far,” she added.
"Advocate Borotho Matsoso and his delegation are also expected to present a report on what the Lesotho Mounted Police Service have uncovered thus far."
