SARS: A million people file tax returns
Updated | By sibahle motha
A million people had filed their tax returns since the beginning of the tax season on July 1, the SA Revenue Services (SARS) said on Tuesday.
SARS was pleased to confirm that by 1pm on Monday, it had passed the one million mark with respect to income tax returns submitted by taxpayers.
”This is encouraging and an important compliance measure for SARS as it indicates that 23.07 percent of taxpayers who are required to submit a tax return have already done so compared to 18.79 percent at the same time last year,” said SARS.
At least 60 percent of the taxpayers have used e-Filling to to submit returns, while 38.78 percent opted to file at a SARS branch. The remaining 0.27 percent submitted returns through post and drop boxes at SARS offices.
”This achievement sends out a positive compliance message by taxpayers as well as their confidence in SARS,” said SARS commissioner Tom Moyane.
“On behalf of the SARS, I would like to thank taxpayers for their willingness to meet their tax obligations and responsibilities, this has certainly made our job easier this year.”
