Sars: Tax non-filers will pay penalties
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
The South African Revenue Services (Sars) says those who fail to submit tax returns by Wednesday will be subjected to penalties.
The penalties will be calculated based on a taxpayer’s taxable income and can range from R250 up to R16 000 per month.
The deadline was extended from October 31 to December 4.
Sars’ Janine Mqulwana says taxpayers who want to submit their returns at branches on Wednesday will receive assistance with self-service options.
“Penalties will apply to late filers as well as those who do not submit their tax returns".
“Another reminder is that those that need to file are taxpayers who have additional income over and above the salary stated on their IRP5.”
The Sars e-filing portal will close at midnight on Wednesday.
