SA’s Covid-19 positivity rate tops 3%

South Africa recorded 687 new Covid-19 cases over the past 24 hours, amid concern over the spike in cases as the festive season approaches.
With warnings over a looming fourth wave, Gauteng accounted for 79% of all new cases.
The new cases represent a 3.4% positivity rate.
There are two more deaths related to Covid-19 complications, bringing the total number of deaths to 89 574 to date.
North West and KwaZulu-Natal follow at 5% of all new cases, followed by Mpumalanga and Western Cape each accounting for 3%, Northern Cape accounted for 2% while Eastern Cape, Free State, and Limpopo each accounted for 1%.
There are 2 705 people hospitalised due to Covid-19.
