SA’s Special Task Force off to Dubai for Swat challenge
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The South African Special Task Force is once again heading to Dubai on Friday to compete in an international Swat challenge.
The Special Task Force deals with high-risk incidents which include hostage incidents, search, and rescue missions, as well as providing specialised operational support to other units within the police service.
The challenge is intended to create cooperation between all international Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) teams.
"The Special Task Force will form part of the more than 40 teams from 25 countries that will compete within five challenge categories to test each team's global tactical and weaponry ability and proficiency,” says outgoing National Police Commissioner Khehla Sitole.
In 2019 South Africa was placed 44th out of 50 in the international Swat challenge.
