The Sunshine Tour is expected to be played on this golf course from Wednesday.

Sunshine Tour COO Grant Wilson says the vandals gained access to the Wild Coast Sun Country Club in the Eastern Cape on Saturday night.

“Six or seven of the greens on the back nine have been dug up. There are large holes in the greens,” says Wilson.

Teams from the Sunshine Tour have since assisted teams from the Wild Coast Sun as well as those from Sun International to repair the greens.

“Our tournament director on the ground is currently assessing the situation. They have a plan of action where they can definitely use the first nine.”

Wilson says a decision will still be made whether the greens on the back nine can be used in two days’ time.

He says while the actual extent of the damage is not known yet, it has already been determined that the damage is extensive.

“Greens are expensive commodities on the golf course,” he adds.

He says it’s not known yet how the vandals gained access to the golf course.

Security measures have since been re-assessed.

The motive has not been established and no-one has been arrested yet.
