Updated | By Sibahle Motha
A security guard is in a critical condition in hospital after he was shot during a botched robbery at a mall in Centurion this morning.
The incident took place at Forest Hill Shopping Mall this morning.
The man was shot in the chest.
Police spokesperson Bonginkosi Msimango says the three armed suspects entered a Vodacom shop.
"The suspects forced a security guard employed in the mall, eight employees and two customers into the manager's office.
"They then forced the employees into the safe where they asked them how long the safe would take to open. The employees said it would take ten minutes."
The suspects fled on foot when the safe would not open.
"When they got to the basement, the three suspects came across a Fidelity guard and shot and wounded him. He is in a critical but stable condition," Msimango says.
Police have not made any arrests.
Forest Hill Shopping Mall could not be reached for comment.
