Senekal businessman Andre Pienaar to approach high court over bail refusal
Updated | By Gaopalelwe Phalaetsile
The legal team representing Senekal businessman André Pienaar's has applied to the Free State High Court to set aside the decision by his local magistrate’s court to deny him bail.
He was arrested last week after a police vehicle was torched during a protest outside the court.
On Tuesday, Magistrate Buti Mlangeni said releasing him on bail would undermine public peace and security.
Pienaar’s lawyer Ilanie Oberholzer says their application to have the ruling set aside will be heard on Thursday.
"There are a whole lot of grounds that were raised by the magistrate that we have to respond to but we as the legal believe there are sufficient grounds for him to be released on bail.”
She says they believe the application will be successful.
