Senior Gauteng Health official shot and killed outside Joburg home

A senior finance official in the Gauteng Health Department has been shot and killed outside her home in the south of Johannesburg.
Babita Deokaran (53) was shot on Monday morning outside her home moments after she had dropped off her child at school.
Gauteng health spokesperson Kwara Kekana says she died in hospital on Monday afternoon.
“The Gauteng Department of Health is at a loss for words at this brutal and tragic passing. Ms Babita Deokaran was an invaluable member of the Gauteng Health team, she rose up the ranks in the public service, in the last three decades, after she joined as an accounting clerk.
“She went on to become Chief Director: Financial Accounting at the department and at times acted as the Chief Financial Officer.”
The department has called on police speed up investigations and to catch those behind Deokaran's murder.
