Updated | By Nomfundo Twala
At least seven suspects have been arrested for allegedly planning to bomb an Automated Teller Machine in Klerksdorp.
The individuals, aged between 30 and 58, were taken into custody on Monday after the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section received intelligence about the planned attack in Klerksdorp, North West.
One rifle, a pistol, and explosives were seized during the arrests.
Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale said officers acted quickly, apprehending the suspects before they could carry out the crime.
"The suspects will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, conspiracy to commit a crime, and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle," she said.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court soon.
