‘Shebeshxt’ tells court he intends pleading not guilty to road rage charges
Lekompo artist Lehlogonolo “Shebeshxt” Chauke has told the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court he intends to plead not guilty to the charge linked to a road rage incident in October.
The 30-year-old musician was arrested two weeks ago and has been charged with attempted murder, malicious damage to property and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The charges emanate from a road rage incident where he allegedly shot and wounded a motorist in Ladanna outside Polokwane.
“I deny that I attempted to murder the complainant or that I unlawfully and intentionally damaged any property as alleged,” he said in a statement through his lawyer, Advocate Lot Ramusi.
“I maintain my innocence and will plead not guilty. I’m advised that the merits of this case will be fully ventilated at trial, and I do not wish to deal with the evidence in detail at this stage.”
Ramusi asked the court to grant Chauke bail of R50,000, as he has over 40 booked gigs, family responsibilities, and business commitments.
The 30-year-old musician is applying for a schedule six bail application at the Polokwane High Court on Thursday afternoon.
The state has already added six more charges against the 30-year-old musician, which include two counts of attempted murder.
Other charges include negligent discharge of a firearm, robbery with aggravating circumstances and two counts of assault with GBH.
The matter has been postponed again to next month after the court cited commitments to another matter outside the Limpopo province.
“And this matter will receive the necessary attention it deserves, and having said that, this matter is therefore postponed to Monday, 8 December 2025, and the accused will be in custody,” ruled magistrate Godfrey Netshiozwi.
