Sibiya knew Matlala was suspect in Boshoga's disappearance - Nkosi
Sergeant Fannie Nkosi has told the Madlanga Commission that suspended deputy national police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya knew that Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala was a suspect in the kidnapping of Pretoria businessman Jerry Boshoga.
Nkosi says despite this, Sibiya shared information about the case with Matlala.
Boshoga was kidnapped in November 2024, and his family has since received videos showing him being assaulted, along with a ransom demand of 10 million rand.
The commission has questioned Nkosi on why Sibiya would share information with a suspect.
He confirmed he was simply acting as a messenger: “Even though I didn’t ask him then, but because it was previously communicated, between myself and General Sibiya and Matlala, that anything he wants from Matlala and that Matlala wants from him and he can’t get hold of General Sibiya it must go via me. So, when General Sibiya sent the said document, I knew it was for Mr Matlala.”
During his appearance before the Ad Hoc Committee, Matlala was asked to address Boshoga’s mother over claims he was involved in his alleged kidnapping.
Economics Freedom Fighters’ leader Julius Malema relayed an emotional plea from Boshoga’s mother, who he said had asked him to confront Matlala directly.
In his response, Matlala denied any involvement and stated that the family was being influenced by individuals who sought to implicate him.
“Mama, you know very well that me and your son are very close friends,” he said.
“We’ve done a lot of things together, travelled together… There is nothing I would do to harm your son. Actually, your son was like a young brother to me.”
Boshoga’s kidnappers initially demanded R60 million, later lowering the ransom to R10 million. The businessman has not been seen since.
