Sindiso Magaqa murder trial suffers yet another delay
The case against three men linked to the murder of African National Congress Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa suffered another delay on Monday.
State prosecutor Elvis Gcweka criticised one of the accused, former uMzimkhulu municipal manager Stanley Sikhosana, for the delay following his change of legal counsel.
Sikhosana appeared alongside his co-accused, Mbulelo Mpofana and Sbonelo Myeza on Monday.
Gcweka said four witnesses have died while others were still in witness protection after six years, adding that the state was ready to proceed with their case.
“We have to go back to the mother of Sindiso Magaqa to explain the position. Games are being played here by accused number three, who is Mr Sikhosana. He’s going to go back to the uMzimkhulu Magistrates Court and say there are delays in this matter. We need this matter to start.”
Meanwhile, National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams was granted R10 000 bail by the Pinetown Magistrates Court last week, after he was arrested for allegedly meddling in the Magaqa case.
Adams faces three counts of fraud and two of defeating the ends of justice.
The Parliamentarian allegedly publicised a sworn statement linked to the Magaqa murder trial, with prosecutors arguing it interfered with ongoing investigations and court proceedings.
Several social media videos, allegedly posted by Adams, were also played in court, in which he accused members of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) of intimidation and corruption.
The matter has been remanded to 14 August.
