The Sunday Independent is reporting that Madzikane II Thandisizwe Diko’s company Royal Bhaca Projects (RB) was awarded a contract worth R125 million by the department in March.

The tenders were for the supply and delivery of personal protective equipment to the department.

SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago says they have sent a team to probe the Covid-19 tender.

“All we can tell you is that we have sent our team on a secondment basis to go investigate. Not specific people but to investigate the process of getting the tender of the around PPE in Gauteng Health.

“At this moment we are investigating about ninety companies that are involved. We are looking into it and the second thing we are doing, is finalising the proclamation that will look into all maladministration that might have happened during Covid-19.

Kganyago says the probe won’t be completed overnight.

“For the fact that they are dealing with more than ninety companies that are involved, it might take a little bit of time because you have to get to the bottom of each and every contract that was entered into and whether it followed the processes and all prescripts that were put by Treasury in relation of spending during Covid-19 tender.”
