Last month, Mabe, his wife Elsie, four former senior officials from the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development heads of departments Thandeka Mbassa and Matilda Gasela, former Chief Financial Officer Abdullah Mohamed Ismail, the Chief Director-Sustainable Use of the Environment Loyiso Mkwana, and a former employee of KGP Media Holdings Tinyiko Mahuntsi, appeared before the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Palm Ridge.

The state has alleged that in 2017, Enviro Mobi, a company linked to Mabe, was irregularly awarded an R72 million tender to supply 200 motorised three-wheeler vehicles set to empower waste pickers in the Ekurhuleni metro.

On Monday, the SIU confirmed it had obtained a preservation order from the Special Tribunal against Groen Mintirho (formerly Enviro Mobi) in connection with alleged procurement irregularities involving the Gauteng Agriculture Department and the Ekurhuleni metro.

“The order restricts Mabe from selling, leasing, transferring, or otherwise dealing with specific assets, including an immovable property located at Steyn City, Gauteng Province, and a luxury motor vehicle, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS,” said the unit's spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago.

In addition to the preservation order, the SIU has filed a review application at the Special Tribunal to nullify the tender award and recover funds unlawfully paid to Groen Mintirho.

Mabe and his co-accused were released on R30,000 bail each and were ordered to return to court in March next year.

The businessman denied the charges against him.
