Six bogus City Power workers arrested for cable theft

Six bogus City Power officials have been arrested for cable theft in Roodepoort.

The suspects were caught in the act after digging a 10m trench to access the cables along Cypress Road in Zonnehoewe on Wednesday morning.


City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena says the suspects told security that they were contracted City Power officials.


"Upon interrogation, the suspects failed to produce the card or City Power ID card. The suspects then attempted to bribe the security officer with R5000 which the security refused.


“Three suspects fled the scene and three were immediately taken to Honeydew Police Station where they were charged with damage to and tempering essential infrastructure, bribery amongst other crimes a vehicle used in the commission of the crime was pounded," says Mangena.


The three other suspects that fled the scene were eventually arrested on Peter Road.
