Updated | By Lonwabo Miso
Six people were killed and six injured in veld fires fanned by gale-force winds in KwaZulu-Natal, the co-operative governance and traditional affairs department said on Tuesday.

Four people died in Kokstad and two in the AbaQulusi/Vryheid municipality, MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube said in a statement.
"Today after conducting the detailed assessment on the impact we can confirm that there were 200 households which were affected across the province and a total of six people lost their lives... six people were injured."
Dube-Ncube and agriculture MEC Cyril Xaba visited affected areas to distribute aid.
She told those affected that the SA Social Security Agency, home affairs and human settlements departments would help them reapply for identity documents, birth certificates, and houses.
Xaba told farmers the department would give them emergency feed.
Households in areas threatened by fires were evacuated.
