Six killed in separate Limpopo crashes
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
Authorities in Limpopo are investigating the cause of a crash which claimed the lives of five people on the R71 in Tzaneen.
Preliminary investigations indicate that two cars collided head-on before bursting into flames on Saturday evening.
Five people who were travelling in one of the cars were declared dead by paramedics at the scene of the crash.
The driver of the second vehicle, which was reportedly speeding before losing control, escaped with injuries.
Transport Spokesperson Mike Maringa said reckless driving was a possible cause of the accident.
"In another accident also reported in Mopani on the R40 outside, a 19-year-old passenger was killed when a driver of a Toyota SUV that they were travelling in, lost control of the vehicle and overturned.
"MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya called on motorists to always drive within the speed limit. The MEC says accidents reported over the weekends and in the early hours of the morning are a cause for concern."
