Slain Taxify driver’s family believes they have info to track down killers

The family of slain Taxify driver Siyabonga Ngcobo says they have information that could help the police track down the killers.
Ngcobo's burnt body was found in the boot of a vehicle in Sunnyside in Pretoria last week.
Gauteng MEC for Transport Ismael Vadi and Community Safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane visited his family on Wednesday.

His death comes amid several incidents of violence between metered taxi drivers and drivers who make use of ride-hailing apps such as Taxify or Uber.
“There is information that the family believes might assist in cracking this case or in finding who the perpetrators are. There are witnesses that are willing to come forward and the family is not happy that these people have not been interviewed by police,” Nkosi-Malobane told reporters.
The 21-year-old Ngcobo was doing his fourth year in Sports Management at TUT and had only been driving a Taxify vehicle for two weeks before his death.
While the circumstances around his death are still being investigated, Vadi says they have reason to believe this is linked to a murder of an Uber driver who was shot dead and left in a veld in Etwatwa near Benoni last year.
A task team was established last year in an attempt to resolve the issues between the two transport services.
Police were also deployed to known hot-spots where violence had occurred.
Vadi said he is shocked at the latest incident of violence.
“We thought that the situation had stabilised and there might be isolated incidents. But it is quite clear that this thing is going to another level, this is not throwing a brick at somebody’s window or chasing a driver from the station. We are now talking about murder. And the barbaric nature of this incident, it is really unacceptable and we have to take this to another level in terms of detective work.
