Social worker implicated in AB Xuma rape behind bars

A police forensic social worker implicated in the alleged rape and sexual assault of school children has been arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
The police captain will remain behind bars until his formal bail application.
Ipid spokesperson Moses Dlamini says the suspect appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
“He appeared on charges of sexual assault and rape. He was remanded in custody to 21 August 2018 for a formal bail application.”

The police forensic investigator allegedly raped and sexually assaulted two children who were also victims in the AB Xuma Primary School sexual assault scandal in Soweto.
In March, the school’s caretaker was arrested following allegations of abuse of at least 87 children.
The officer had been deployed to the school to prepare the children for a court case.

He then allegedly raped and sexually assaulted two children aged 7 and 8 in one of the school’s classrooms.
