South Africa records more than 10 000 new Covid-19 cases

South Africa has recorded an increase of more than 10 000 new Covid-19 cases for the first time since August.
The total number of new Covid-19 cases recorded in 24 hours is 10 016, making this the single biggest increase since the country moved into the second wave.
Statistics released by Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize, show that South Africa’s positivity rate has shot up to 21% and is far exceeding the acceptable rate of 10 %.
The cumulative number of cases stands at 883 687.

A further 166 more COVID-19 related deaths have been reported - with the Eastern Cape reported 89 new related deaths and the Western Cape 31 new fatalities.
Kwa-Zulu Natal has further recorded 25 deaths, Gauteng has 10 fatalities.
The Free State recorded 9 fatalities and Limpopo has 2 deaths.
The number of deaths in the country as a result of Covid-19, now stands at 23 827.
